With yet another off-shore summer festival season creeping up on us, everyone is reaching for their perfect festival outfit and spending hours refreshing their web browsers just to secure tickets. But the preparations are always worth it – ask anyone returning from a big festival like Glastonbury or Tomorrowland and they will agree.
A few years back Emily set her sights on COACHELLA; a music and arts festival located in the hot, dusty desert of Indio, California. The festival brings in huge crowds in the hundreds of thousands each year to enjoy some of the years biggest artists, musicians and DJ’s.
In this post, we’re going to take you through a recount of Em’s Coachella 2014 experience, and give you some tips and advice on what to expect at any music festivals you’ll be attending this year.
Lets talk fashion
Coachella is the festival fashion king, with everyone pulling out their best boho outfits and putting a unique twist on their wardrobe for the weekend. Each corner you turn will be a new, interesting and bold fashion statement catching your eye. Expect to see lots of patterns and prints, metallic flash tattoos, fringed everything, crops and bralettes, denim shorts, bandannas, flower headbands, crotchet, and as you can expect in the basking desert heat – a lot of skin!

The line up
As one of the world’s most famous festivals, the Coachella lineup is always full of high-profile acts. The 2014 line up had us absolutely pumped to get inside the gates to sing and dance all weekend long. We danced to Ellie Goulding, Lana Del Rey, Aleo Blacc, Lorde, Flume, Bastille, Pharrell Williams, Empire of the Sun, Calvin Harris, Alesso, Zedd, Diclosure, City and Colour, Capital Cities, and many, many more. But the biggest of all – the return of Outkast! Yes, dreams do come true – the legendary hip-hop rap duo were reunited at Coachella 2014, busting out hits like Hey Ya, Ms. Jackson and Roses for the first time since 2006. The atmosphere was electric throughout the set, and the crowd loved every second.
The lineup for the 2016 festival has been released. You can view it on the Official Website.
The art attractions
Coachella is a Music and Arts festival, and each year scattered throughout the festival grounds are gigantic sculptures and other art pieces made by world-renowned artists. In 2014, art pieces included Tyler Hanson’s astronaut (aka ‘Escape Velocity’) a humanoid robot sculpture. The sculptures – on wheels – roamed the grounds throughout the weekend and captured the imaginations of the crowd. As you can imagine, it’s a surreal experience having a 36 foot tall astronaut floating above your head!
If you find yourself at Coachella, here’s something you absolutely must do during the weekend. Do yourself a favour and hop on the ferris wheel – take in the surreal sight of thousands of people roaming the festival grounds – all as small as ants from the heights of the wheel.
Turn to the opposite direction and find a horizon full of mountains and valleys, each different shades as they fade off into the distance. So peaceful and picturesque – you just found your quiet escape.
So now your set you can go ahead and get crazy at Coachella or any other festival you’re planning on attending this year. Just remember; Anything goes! Have fun festival goers!
